For older photos, independent labels, or anything no longer in stock, what comes back is the closest genuine real-world match rather than the identical SKU - still a real, buyable product, just not guaranteed to be the precise original.

What kinds of photos actually work for this?

It doesn't need to be a clean product photo; a real-world photo with normal background clutter is fine as long as the pieces are recognisable.
Does it find the exact item, or something similar?
It depends on the piece. Sometimes the exact product turns up, especially for recent, still-in-stock items from major retailers. More often, especially for older photos or independent/vintage pieces, what comes back is a genuinely close real-world match - not a generic "in the style of" illustration, but an actual product you can click through to and buy.
Why not just reverse-image-search the photo myself?
